The ancient art of Feng Shui is designed to make us happier, healthier and wealthier by cultivating balance in every area. Chi, or energy, requires uninterrupted spaces in order to flood the desired environment. The location of objects within the home can impact this, so a few adjustments can promote better feng shui.

1) Fix the Doors:

According to eastern traditions, a door creaking is a sign the door is crying. This can promote a negative energy in the surrounding area. How chi (energy) enters the front door can be an indicator of the chi that enters the home. So fixing creeks in doors, especially the front door can promote more fluidity.

2) Buy a supportive mattress:

The bed is an important piece of furniture as we spend a great deal of time in bed. High quality sleep is vital for the body’s restoration and repair. It is also important in weight maintenance. So the type of mattress we use should be appropriate. According to feng shui we should never sleep in a used mattress as we do not know the type of chi the previous owner carried.

3) Bed Placement:

The bed should be located as far away from the door as possible and not in direct line of the door.  Bed positioning too close to the door is said to promote startling and distractions, which is believed to interrupt sleep quality. However, it is recommended that upon waking, the door should be in full vision so we feel as though we have control over our lives.

4) Include particular colour tones throughout the home:

A strong and harmonious Feng Shui Earth element in the home helps to create stability, nourishment and protection for all relationships. Feng Shui earth colours include light yellow and beige. Feng Shui metal colours promote clarity and preciseness so the Feng Shui Metal Element brings sharpness, precision, clarity and efficiency. These colours include grey and white.

5) Get rid of unused items:

Whether it is cleaning out bedroom wardrobes or decluttering in other household areas, it’s important to rid the home of unused items. It is easy to store and hold onto old and unnecessary things but if they are not being used they are interrupting the flow of chi. It is believed that clutter prevents us from embracing new opportunities.
